I’m back with another round of monthly beauty favorites! Here are my top picks from April.
April Beauty Favorites
Earlier in April, Follain had a pop-up in DC and I was able to grab a few favorites to restock my green beauty collection. I was also able to pick up a few products I’ve been wanting to try and a few new-to-me products as well.
Josh Rosebrook Hydrating Accelerator
You can use Josh Rosebrook’s Hydrating Accelerator as a toner or mist over or under your makeup. It’s great for any kind of skin and is so easy to pack in your bag to have with you throughout the day. My skin is drier than I realized and I’ve been craving lots of moisture for my face recently; this product has been a perfect addition to my skincare lineup.
Skincando Combat-Ready Balm
You’ll see I have two balms in this roundup and it’s because I am having a major moment with balms right now. As I said above, I’ve been trying to moisturize my face more often since it’s so dry. This balm from Skincando is awesome. Skincando’s founder, Sara Damelio (a DC native!), developed this balm to soothe her skin. And I am so glad she did! You can use this balm anywhere. I’ve put putting it on my face each night after cleansing and I wake up with super moisturized skin that’s not oily at all.
Comfort & Joy Apothecary Geranium Balm
This bad news is that you can’t buy this geranium balm from Comfort & Joy Apothecary yet. The good news is that Lisa, Comfort & Joy Apothecary’s founder and owner, is working on releasing a balm soon! She sent me a few samples to try and I’m hooked. The scent is unreal and it’s super moisturizing. Similar to the balm above, I’ve been putting it on at night and also under makeup in the mornings and I love it.
Ilia Multi-Stick in Cheek to Cheek
This multi-stick from Ilia is definitely not something I would have gravitated towards on my own. But when the makeup artist at Follain used it on my eyes, cheeks, and lips the day I was at the pop-up, I was sold. Ilia describes it as a Tuscan sienna red. Again, not something that would have caught my eye but I am so glad I bought this! I’ve been using it a few times a week, alternating with the RMS Lip2Cheek product I mentioned last month in my monthly roundup.
PiperWai Natural Deodorant
In case you’re still looking for a natural deodorant, perhaps you should check out this one from PiperWai. As I’ve mentioned before, finding a natural deodorant that works for you takes time so be patient! I received this deodorant in a swag bag at an event and I have been pleasantly surprised. I’ve been using it for about two weeks and I really feel like it works! It’s activated charcoal-based which is different than a lot of other natural deos. Activated charcoal is super absorbent, making it a great ingredient for deodorant. Also fun fact: the owners and formulators of PiperWai were on Shark Tank!
Vapour Mesmerize Eyeliner in Truffle
This eyeliner is another product I didn’t plan on buying at Follain when I was there but it was just too good to pass up! You can use it on your eyes or brows and I love how easily it glides on. It also smudges well in case you want to create more of a smoky eye.
A Word About Layering Products
Lots of people have questions about how they should layer their products, especially on the face. Once you’ve cleansed your skin, you want to start with a toner, something like the Hydrating Accelerator above is a great choice. Then, especially if your skin is dry, you want to use a product with water in it. That’s when I use one of the balms. After that’s soaked in, you can use an oil-based product. You don’t want to use the oil-based product right on top of cleansed skin because it doesn’t have a way to soak in. It just sits on top of your skin without penetrating your pores. But if you use the oil-based product after a water-based product, that oil-based product helps seal in the moisture. Then you can add your makeup on top of your skincare.
Let me know if you have any questions or if you’ve tried any of these products!
